Magazine placements
by Awake at last inthis morning we opened our front door to find 5 magazines, 4 awakes and 1 watchtower left there.
someone must have been counselled about not placing enough literature.
we never heard them knock and we are not that deaf, at least we didn't think so.

Misfit, they were different mags. Who would want to catch us up? They barely speak to me at the shops, shunning I think they call it. If we were DF'd we wouldn't even notice. -

Blondie, your explanation sounds plausible. Actually most things are possible, but 5 magazines at our door, now that is someone who wants to count placements and time and they will probably come back with more mags and count a return visit as well. -

"Escape from Paradise"
by zeb ini have just finished reading brock talons second book (see above).
well worth the read.
terribly honest and humbling to read.

Awake at last
I just finished reading both books on Kindle, the Paradise one last night. I'm going to get Mr Awake at last to read them now. They were both good in their own ways but most people will relate to the Paradise book more as most have not been to Bethel.
Thank you Brock for two good reads.

This morning we opened our front door to find 5 magazines, 4 Awakes and 1 Watchtower left there. Someone must have been counselled about not placing enough literature. We never heard them knock and we are not that deaf, at least we didn't think so. I wonder how much time they counted sitting at our bistro table writing up their notes.
Mr Awake at last commented about how thin they were too. He is learning TTATT now too.
i haven't really got time to read the mags as keeping up with JW.com takes up all my reading time these days plus the Late Ray Franz books occupy much of my time too. I have also just finished reading two of Brock Talons books. So as you can see, I keep myself busy these days.

Really don't feel like a JW anymore
by snare&racket init has been a good 8 years away from my area, a good 10 years + since i was regularly at meetings.
a good 12 years since i was hesitantly active.. it is a slow process but it does happen.
i now feel no connection to the belief system beyond memories.

Snare & Racket, your name says it all. A famous WTBTS president once said " Religion is a snare and a racket." It takes the leader of such a snare and racket to recognise it. In fact he was the instigator of one policy in particular that you didn't mention, the blood issue.
Many other things I can think of that I don't miss are:
child abuse
disfellowshipping and shunning
rejection of anyone who can no longer do what they used to do
confusion over the blood issue
lack of compassion for mental illness
children being baptised and then later DFd
over use of chaperones for courting
unable to question anything or even express an opinion
justifying yourself to judicial committees
conditional friendships
And so on, and so on, and so on.

My mother says I should just DA already.

If you live in a larger area such as a city, DAing yourself is much easier than if you live in a small town where there is only one shopping area, one or two schools, etc., as you keep on running into people. In a larger area such as Newcastle in NSW or Geelong in VIC or a capital city, you are far more anonymous and can blend into society easier. That's my opinion anyway, for what it is worth. -

I felt he was something to do with Jugde Rutherford, there seemed to be a slight, only slight resemblance.
I don't think he ever wrote anything biblical or about his father.
I hope he had a reasonably happy life, as happy as he could be with JFR as his old man, and that Jehovah gives him some of the rewards that his father felt entitled to.

Just ask simple questions and make street witnesses move along
by OnTheWayOut inyou don't have to know much to talk to jw's and show them they don't want to really discuss the matters.they consider a discussion on the matter they are pushing to be "confrontational.".

I agree with Blondie who said that they appeared not to have read the magazine they were highlighting. Big mistake. Why should someone else take it and read it if it is obvious the witness person hasn't read it?
Did they have Bibles there? I didn't notice any.
Counting time is all they were doing, end of story.

Hi John and welcome to the forum.
If that's your first post, I can't wait for the second and subsequent posts. You're going to have to work really hard to top that.
One day I will tell the story of my baptism although it is not nearly as good as the fishnet stockings.
Anyway welcome again.

TO THE STUPID ATHEISTS:
by atheist_R_stupid inbeing that this is not "ex jws" and in fact, more driven by atheists talking a bunch of crap, im not even going to address you people like you know anything about jws because you dont.
nor am i going to assume you know the bible because none of you do.. and yes, im speaking down at you all because you men have actually went out your way to make a site to speak down at an entire group of people.
yet i bet you cant even handle a single uswer talking down at you, like you talk down about jws can you?.

I didn't mean that we have to be tolerant of opinions that are insulting as the opening comments on this topic were. My comments were directed to the person who started this.
There are many good, loving, caring people on this site and they do not deserve to be spoken to like that.
If you are sick of this forum, leave, just leave. You don't have to burn your bridges behind you, therefore not ever being able to come back. Why lose the support of all the wonderful people on this site by being banned.
Go away and chill for a while, you may feel better later.
To all the others, of course you can defend yourselves but you should not have to. We come here for company, discussion, comfort, new ideas and thinking, respect, all the things we didn't get at the hall.
